Das Internationale Städteforum in Graz – ISG, gegründet durch eine Initiative des Europarates 1976 und in Graz angesiedelt, setzt sich für Altstadterhaltung, Ortsbildschutz und Baukulturerhaltung, für das UNESCO Weltkulturerbe, den Schutz von Stadt- und Ortszentren und für zeitgenössisches Bauen im historischen Kontext ein.

Das ISG ist ein internationaler und überparteilich unterstützter Verein, der in ein großes Netzwerk von Denkmalinstitutionen und Baukulturvereinen eingebunden ist. Der ehrenamtlich arbeitende internationale Vorstand des Vereines unterstützt seine Ziele und bildet die Drehscheibe zu verwandten Initiativen.

Im viermal jährlich publizierten dt./engl. ISG-Magazin stellen wir mit Fachautorinnen und Fachautoren aus ganz Europa „best-practice-projekte“ vor und wollen damit aufzeigen, dass man über gute Ideen, Projekte und Planungen zur Erhaltung der historischen Baukultur und zum sensiblen Weiterbauen nicht genug reden und schreiben kann!

Beim jährlichen ISG-Symposium intensivieren wir diesen internationalen Austausch und bereichern ihn durch Exkursionen.

Forum of historical cities and municipalities – A network of “Baukultur” connects past and future

The international forum of towns and cities in Graz, ISG – which was founded in 1976 through an initiative by the Council of Europe and resides in Graz – is promoting and advocating for the conservation of historic cities and towns, the protection of historical centres, the conservation of “Baukultur”, UNESCO World Heritage, the preservation of city centres, and contemporary architecture in the historical context.

The ISG is an international and non-partisan supported association which is closely affiliated with a whole network of organizations and establishments concerned with “Baukultur” and the preservation of historical monuments.  

In the quarterly publication in German as well as in English, we are introducing European experts and best-practice examples and we want to illustrate the necessity of discourse surrounding quality ideas, projects and developments concerning the conservation and further adaptations of the historical “Baukultur”.

This fruitful, international exchange is intensified at our annual Symposium and further enhanced through excursions and guided-tours.
