Ressource Denkmal

Nicht nur die Grazer*innen lieben die einzigartige historische Altstadt, auch weit über die Steiermark hinaus ist sie von großer Bedeutung. Der beeindruckende Bestand hochwertiger Bausubstanz von der Gotik bis zum Jugendstil hat einen großen historischen, architektonischen und kulturellen Stellenwert. Es bedarf eines sensiblen Vorgehens – Altstadtzonen als kulturelles Erbe möglichst in ihrer ursprünglichen Form zu erhalten und sie zukunftstauglich zu machen. Wenn wir auf Verantwortung für historische Gebäude setzen, übernehmen wir auch Verantwortung für den Klimaschutz. Denkmal- und Klimaschutz sind keine Gegensätze. Vielmehr gehen sie Hand in Hand und müssen angesichts des voranschreitenden Klimawandels in einem gemeinsamen Kontext betrachtet werden. Nachhaltigkeit spielt in der Denkmalpflege und im Bauerbe eine immense Rolle. Der einstimmig angenommene Grundsatzbeschluss zur klimaorientierten Stadtentwicklung wird uns in unserem täglichen Handeln daran erinnern, wie wichtig es ist, im Sinne unserer Klimaziele zu handeln. Die internationalen Beispiele im Magazin zeigen die Vereinbarkeit von Denkmal- und Klimaschutz, weswegen der regelmäßige Austausch mit anderen Städten wertvoll ist. Unser Ziel in der Denkmalpflege ist es, auf innovative und effiziente Energie- und Sanierungslösungen zu setzen, damit die Grazer Altstadt für kommende Generationen nicht nur erhalten, sondern auch lebenswert bleibt und klimaresilient wird. Diesem Thema wollen wir uns auch 20232 widmen.

It is not only the people of Graz who love the unique historic centre; it is also of great importance far beyond Styria. The impressive stock of high-quality buildings from Gothic to Art Nouveau is of great historical, architectural and cultural value. A sensitive approach is needed – to preserve zones in the historic centre as cultural heritage, as far as possible in their original form and to make them fit for the future. When we take responsibility for historic buildings, we also take responsibility for climate protection. Protection of monuments and climate protection are not opposites. Rather, they go hand in hand and must be considered in a joint context in view of advancing climate change. Sustainability plays an immense role in monument conservation and built heritage. The unanimously adopted policy resolution on climate-oriented urban development will remind us in our daily actions how important it is to act in the spirit of our climate goals. The international examples in this issue of the magazine show the compatibility of monument and climate protection, which is why regular exchange with other cities is valuable. Our goal in monument preservation is to focus on innovative and efficient energy und renovation solutions so that Graz`s historic centre is not only preserved for future generations, but also remains worth living in and becomes climate resilient. We want to dedicate ourselves to this topic in 2023, too.
