Die Erhaltung der historisch wertvollen Orts- und Stadtzentren ist eine Herkulesaufgabe, denn der Leerstand schwächt nicht nur das einzelne Gebäude, sondern auch das Gefüge der Altstadt. Hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten der autozentrierte Handel die Nähe zum Kreisverkehr am Ortsrand gesucht und dadurch die Gebäude im Ortskern entwertet, so bedroht heute der Internethandel auch die Einkaufszentren an der Peripherie. Während die einen partout nur über Leerstand diskutieren wollen (und mehr Parkplätze fordern), sehen die anderen die Chance, endlich den Blick auf das gesamte Stadtparterre lenken zu können. Eine Altstadt, ein historisches Ortszentrum ist mehr als die Summe aus bebautem und unbebautem Raum. Das ISG möchte darüber diskutieren und sucht nach gelungenen Beispielen in Österreich und seinen Nachbarländern. Machen Sie mit!

Preserving the historically valuable town and city centres is a Herculean task, as vacancies not only weaken individual buildings but also the fabric of the old town. In recent decades, car-centred retail has sought proximity to the roundabout on the outskirts of the town, thereby devaluing the buildings in the town centre, but today e-commerce is also threatening the shopping centres on the periphery. While some people only want to discuss vacancies (and demand more parking spaces), others see an opportunity to finally focus on the entire town centre. A historic town centre is more than the sum of built and public space. The ISG would like to discuss this and is looking for successful examples in Austria and its neighbouring countries.
